Food Bank Donation
While people across the country were panic buying their own supplies, members of the Headington community turned their thoughts to those in need.
For several years, the School has been supporting the Community Emergency Foodbank based in Cowley, collecting thousands of items of food and other supplies for members of the community who might otherwise go hungry.
As the likelihood of widespread school closure grew, putting additional pressure on families who might rely on free school meals, on Monday 16th March the School launched a last-minute collection of much-needed food for the charity.
Before the School closed its doors on Friday 20th March, pupils and staff collected a van full of produce to be distributed.
A spokesman for the charity said: “I know it must have been a difficult and challenging week for all the staff and students but it was so uplifting that everyone still remembered the Foodbank.
“Huge thanks to the school community for their generous donations.”
While the food bank will no longer run as a drop-in service during the COVID-19 outbreak, it will continue running. The trustees are hoping to set up a food delivery service from the beginning of April.
In 2019-2020 the charity distributed over 3,000 food parcels. The charity still needs food donations – visit the CEF website to find out how you can help.
