Higher Education Evening 2023
On Wednesday 1st February Headington’s Hive hosted its annual Higher Education Evening.
It had been planned as Headington’s first fully in-person event focusing on Higher Education since 2019 but national strikes meant a hybrid format returned.
The industrial action meant that one delegate postponed and two events were online, but the staff and girls were delighted to be able to welcome representatives from 21 institutions and subject-specific specialists to the School.
The range of expertise was incredible, from top Russell Group institutions to the most prestigious Creative Arts schools in the country, there was a host of opportunities to explore as part of the event.
The School was particularly pleased to be able to offer talks on a wider range than ever before including a greater emphasis on Degree Apprenticeships and creative subjects than in previous years. The event consisted of institution stalls followed by a talk on UCAS by Headington staff then a wide range of both subject-specific and general skills-based lectures.
Sixth Form Academic Director Mrs Alice Barrett said: “The bespoke event marks the official start of Headington’s Next Steps programme for the L6 and I was so pleased to see the enthusiasm that the event created. One sixth former declared they wanted to go to university there and then, such was their excitement.
“I was also pleased to be able to welcome so many of the U5 this year and showcase what fantastic opportunities the Sixth Form will offer them and to whet their appetite for the next part of their educational journey.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our delegates and also the L6 students and all the staff who helped to make this exciting event possible.”
