Cross-Curricular Workshops: The Poetry of Science
On Thursday 9th March, Headington’s U3 pupils took part in special ‘Poetry of Science’ workshops with visiting poet Dan Simpson.
Dan ran four different workshops across the day, each designed to help the young poets consider how poetry and science both require a flexible mindset, a willingness to ask questions and the desire to take risks.
The girls responded to Dan’s activities with enthusiasm and imagination and all succeeded in generating creative ideas which will form the basis for poems on a scientific theme.
Mrs Mairéad McKendry, Head of English at Headington School, said: “Well done to all of the participants. We look forward to entering a selection of students’ finished poems to IF Oxford’s ‘Poetry of Science’ Competition later in the year.”
