U11s crowned Oxfordshire Primary School Champions
Headington’s U11 Football team are the county champions after a fantastic showing at the U11 National League Trust U11 Cup.
The team got off to a slow start at the tournament on Friday 11th March but quickly found their stride, playing five group games against St Michael’s, East Oxford, Eynsham, New Marston and Tetsworth, winning three games, drawing one and losing one.
They finished third in the group and faced East Oxford in the semi-final. East Oxford had previously beaten Headington 1-0 in the group stages, but the Headington side showed great determination to score early and fight for the victory.
The final was a close game that finished 0-0. In the resulting penalty shoot-out, Abby and Maisie scored their penalties and Charlie played well in goal to prevent Eynsham from scoring.
PE teacher Miss Katie Merrick said: “The girls made great progress throughout the tournament. Tom has been coaching this group of players for a few years now and they did him and the Headington Prep School community proud!”
Well played everyone – great football! The team will now go on to compete in the regional round.
