UKMT Maths Challenge 2024
Keen young mathematicians from across Oxfordshire converged on Headington to take part in a Maths Challenge.
On Thursday 2nd May, the School hosted a UKMT Team Maths Challenge competition attended by 17 local schools.
Eight pupils from L4 and U4 represented Headington in two teams for a day of mathematical puzzle solving and challenges.
Both teams worked collaboratively to gain almost perfect scores in the first half of the day on both the group round and cross-number.
The afternoon proved more demanding during the Head to Head and Relay rounds but they held on for a courageous finish.
The positions at the end of the day for the Headington teams were third and sixth!
Head of Maths Mrs Sarah Sandys said: “Their mathematical curiosity in solving unfamiliar problems was impressive.
“This was a fantastic effort all round and met our target to aim for a top three finish.
“This was the first time since Covid that the Team Maths Challenge competition has taken place and it was a great opportunity for our students to apply their mathematical skills and knowledge in a competitive environment.”
