Young Reporter Winner
A budding reporter has been put through her paces in the newsroom after being selected from hundreds of participants in the Young Reporters Scheme.
Ana Galvani-Silva, U5, was one of just 33 of those taking part who was selected as a winner and invited to spend the day at Kingston University’s newsroom. Read her report below:
As part of the Young Reporters Scheme this year I wrote eight articles over eight months and published them on the Oxford Mail.
In order to enter the competition I had strict deadlines which I had to meet. After completing eight articles on time I entered the competition which required me to submit three articles of my choice according to one of the categories: interview, event, sport, photography and breaking news.
I submitted three of my articles under the sport, interview and event category. I found out I made it through to the semi-finals earlier this month and then found out I was one of the winners!
I was awarded, along with my other fellow winners, an experience day at Kingston University this Saturday 18th May in order to experience what it’s like to work in a newsroom. They haven’t revealed which category I have been awarded for but I will find out during the awards ceremony in June.
I am very grateful for this experience and I hope to continue writing articles and pursue a career in journalism in the future.
