Geology lesson at Rock Edge
Year 4 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting trip to Rock Edge in Headington, where pupils explored the natural world in an engaging way!
Walking down to Rock Edge, the group met local geologists Owen and Bill, who had prepared the site for the children by clearing away debris.
The pupils were thrilled to see the layers of rock and learn about their formation.
They found it fascinating to learn that this area used to be a quarry that built structures in Oxford and how many millions of years before that; it was all underwater.
Owen and Bill also brought an impressive collection of fossils and coral excavated from the area over the years, sparking curiosity and excitement.
Additionally, the children enjoyed orienteering around the woodland.
Year 4 teacher Mr Josh Batty said: “It was a fantastic afternoon filled with hands-on learning, reminding us all of the immense benefits of outdoor exploration – something that is too easily forgotten these days!”
