Staff vs Students Netball 2025

The 2025 charity Staff vs Student Netball match was blessed with full sunshine and a packed crowd following the rather rainy 2024 edition.

The audience were in full cheer as both teams took to the court. The staff team, yet again brought a rather large squad of 20 players, some with plenty of experience and others who had never stepped on a Netball court before.

The cake sale and fantasy staff team were also full of activity with the Sixth Form raising money for Ronald McDonald House.

At the beginning of the match, both teams fielded strong players. Mrs Vicki Cathcart and Mrs Sukey McMaster presented a strong attack for the staff while Mollie and Meg (both Year 13) did the same for the students. Plenty of flair was on show to get the game off to a goal-filled start.

In other quarters, after substitutions, more memorable staff combinations were presented such as Mr Shaun Channer and Mrs Kate Lacey, Miss Hannah Barrett and Mrs Alice Barrett and the formidable Mr Nathan Monk and Mr Josh Ogle as a defensive duo whose expertise in both looking bewildered and picking the ball out of the net really shone through.

Special mentions for the students should be made to Annabelle (Year 12) for her fantastic shooting and Harriet (Year 12), who commanded whichever position she played.

Special mentions for the staff should be made to Mr George Vlachonikolis who played the role of centre very well, Miss Pip Horlock for pure athleticism and Miss Lyn Cockshott for the most enthusiastic celebration.

The girls were overall outstanding and played a consistently good game of Netball throughout. The girls won the game convincingly with the final score at 35-8.

Following the game, Miss Anisha Charania said: “Subject to some changes in management, the staff training sessions will begin now.

“In all seriousness though, well done to the girls, it’s not a surprise that they win year on year with the talent they have in their team!”

Mrs Layla Slade, Head of Netball said: “Outstanding from our 1st team. It was a performance to be proud of and an absolute credit to them and how far they have come as a squad.”
