Trip to Cambodia
Over the summer, a group of 13 girls in the current U5, L6 and U6 flew to Cambodia to participate in an adventure organised by Camps International.
Once they arrived, they joined other groups of students and teachers from schools in Nottinghamshire, Bradford and Worcester.
The main focus of the project was to help rural communities by installing a clean, drinking water source. They helped build toilets, wells and even a water reservoir. The girls also tried their hands at building a chicken coup for a poor family in order to provide them with a source of sustainable income which would allow the children to continue go to school rather than be required to go to work.
For the next stage of their expedition the group trekked through the jungle, each night staying in a different Buddhist monastery where they had the opportunity to practice meditation guided by monks. There was also time to find out more about the history and the culture of the country, including a visit to the Killing Fields where they learned about Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. The trip also provided an opportunity have a go at cooking traditional sticky rice and visit more landmarks including the Royal Palace and the marvels of the Angkor Wat temples.
