Geographers explore urban Oxford
More than 60 Geography IGCSE students descended on Oxford city centre on Tuesday 8th October to investigate the impact of the Westgate Shopping Centre’s regeneration as part of their Urban Environments studies.
After a bracing walk into town, the girls visited investigation sites on Queen St, St George’s Place, Cornmarket and the Covered Market. Data was collected and residents were interviewed to gain an insight into the shopping centre’s impact on local people and businesses in the surrounding streets.
Luckily, the Westgate Centre investigation phase happened to coincide with the one heavy downpour of the day so everybody remained dry. The geographers collected an impressive amount of data for their investigations and were buoyed by the positive reception they received from local people in the city centre.
