Third title for hockey team

Headington’s U14 Hockey team have won their county trophy for the third year running.

The side arrived at Cokethorpe School on Friday 11th October for the U14 Oxfordshire County Hockey Tournament hoping for another county title following on from victories in the under 12s and the under 13s in previous years.

The girls had a tough day ahead with five matches to play.

First up was St Edward’s, which the players knew would be a hard game but Mimi’s goal lead the side to a close 1-0 win. After a very short break, they were up against Oxford High School, who very quickly broke through the defences to score an early goal. The girls piled on the pressure for the rest of the game and, with a few minutes left, Mimi scored a game saving goal.

Next was Tudor Hall and this was when goals started to flow for Headington. The team camped out in the attacking half, leading to a final score of 5-1. Next up were the hosts Cokethorpe, where the girls managed another solid 1-0 victory.

After a much needed lunch break, it was time for the final match, a convinving 7-0 win against Bloxham, leading to the team lifting the county Hockey title once more!

Vice-Captain Emily said: “It was a fantastic way to end the day and we were ecstatic to have been crowned champions for three years in a row!

“We only conceded two goals in the whole tournament and so well done to our defence and to Captain and Goalkeeper Trin.

“Now more challenges lie ahead as we look forward to the regional matches after half term.”
