Athletes Medal in European Championships
Two gifted athletes took their competitive spirit – and running shoes – to Greece to represent their country in a European championship.
Megan (U4) and Evey (U5) travelled to Marathon – the original home and namesake of the famous 26.2 mile run – in Greece to take part in the European Championships of The Biathle, a continuous run-sea swim-run and the Triathle, a shoot-sea swim-run.
There were 16 countries competing and the girls represented GB.
On day one, both Headington girls were exceptional with Megan taking home a silver in the U15 girls’ category while Evey took home Bronze in the U17 category. The GB team won gold overall and so the girls also took home team medals too!
On the second day of the competition, Megan competed in the Triathle and again performed brilliantly. She managed to shoot five out of five straight away before moving onto the sea swim and run which again she achieved in excellent time before placing third on the podium overall and achieving another team gold.
Day three brought on the Laser Run mixed relay in which Evey took part and, together with her partner, they took home gold.
Day four was very busy for the girls as they took part in the individual laser run, in which Evey once again took silver and gained another team gold while Megan had success in the Triathle mixed relay where she partnered up with the same athelete from her Biathle relay and they once again won gold to finish off the championships.
Overall, both girls took home five medals each, an incredible achievement!
Mr Alex Williams, PE teacher and Evey’s Head of Year, said: “The girls performed brilliantly and well deserved the medals they earned! I’m super proud of them. Well done to both of them and we look forward to hearing about more of their successes as they enter more of these fantastic competitions!”
