U16 Hockey National Cup
Friday 22nd November saw the U16 Hockey team in their third national cup match.
After the team’s last win against Cranleigh, the girls were hungry for victory once more. After a team talk and hearty lunch, the group headed to the astroturf with a spring in their step. Despite a sharp turning in the weather, the girls had a promising warm up before regrouping for a team talk before the start of the match.
From the offset, Headington were strong on the ball and tried to power through the Sir William Borlase team but the opposition did well in their defence. It seemed the game could’ve gone either way with the quality on show from both teams. Shortly before half time, Kate scored a fantastic goal. The buzz of the crowd and the timing of the goal really lifted the team. At half time Headington were 1-0 up but knew their second half performance has to improve to not let the opposition back into the game.
The rain increased in intensity as the girls walked out for the second half. Despite the weather, our hero Kate performed brilliantly to score twice more!
The final score was Headington 3 – 0 Sir William Borlase Grammar School.
U16 Captain, Ffion said: “The whistle went to end the game and a wave of pride and celebration came over the team. We dutifully thanked the umpires and the opposition before regrouping for a celebratory team photo. Bring on the next match!”
