The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui
Young actresses at Headington School took on the challenge of Brechtian theatre with an impressive production of ‘The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui’.
The show was extremely successful, with audiences impressed and excellent performances from the students.
Many of the audience comments complimented the students’ ability to play male roles, using Chicago accents and exceptional characterisation. They also marvelled at the staging concept, including a triple revolving stage and 22 assorted boxes and creates used to create a wide range of locations and atmospheres.
Not only this, but the poignancy of performing a political drama in the week of the General Election allowed for a depth of thought that engaged and provoked audience response further. It was the School’s first foray into Brechtian theatre.
