Creating lighthouses
Year 2 topic for the first half of Autumn Term was Land Ahoy. The children dressed up as pirates, made treasure maps and during the last week we learnt about Grace Darling which inspired a creative Art and DT challenge to make a working lighthouse.
The models were constructed from recycled tubes covered in paper mache and painted with white and red stripes. Some even built miniature boats and rocks at the base of their lighthouses. Then each pair of girls put together a simple electric circuit to make a lightbulb turn on. Once the models were painted and dry, the circuits were fixed inside to furnish the lighthouses with light.
