British Science Week at Prep

In celebration of British Science Week 2025, Prep School pupils were encouraged to send in science selfies to celebrated how science can be seen everywhere in our daily lives.

In the whole school assembly Dr Katie King discussed the theme of “Change and Adapt” by showing the variety of ways the natural world has changed and adapted over time.

Some of the selfies sent in demonstrated the changes in season with the arrival of snowdrops, while Dr King also discussed the adaptations in animals as their natural environment changes.

There was also discussion of chemical changes and the shared selfies of children who had investigated mixtures with the result of fizzy eruptions, floating candles, burning wood and cookies and cake – fortunately the last couple were edible and enjoyable.

The children discussed how to be a changemaker in science by noticing changes around them, investigating and looking for solutions to problems and creating things that make the world a better place for everyone.

Dr King said: “Fundamentally they learnt to notice the changes, appreciate change and then also be the change.”
