A Visit from Oxford Nanopore Technologies
Headington’s Science Faculty hosted an open-community STEM event coordinated by an internationally renowned biotech company.
The event on Thursday 23rd June was led by Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) – the brainchild of Oxford University researchers.
The Hive’s lecture theatre and main gallery provided conducive working spaces for the high-tech scientists running flash-talks, break out discussions and hands-on activities for Y10 and Y12 students.
ONT brought in several early career scientists to share their journey into biotechnology as developers, scientists, technical support, operations and biomathematics! Students were given the opportunity to ask questions, load a flow cell and listen to a talk about how nanopores can be used in ground breaking research.
Head of Science Mr Jason Morris said: “We would like to extend thanks to ONT for creating such an enriching and informative experience for all participants.”
