Austria Ski Trip 2024
Over half term, some of the Headington community went on a ski trip, to Wagrain in Austria. Read the full account from trip organiser Mr Jim Baker:
“Our group left Oxford around midday on Friday and after a very long bus journey, we arrived and checked into our accommodation in Wagrain, Austria on Saturday afternoon. Ski Schule were waiting for us upon our arrival when they then provided us with all the necessary kit before a brief bit of downtime to unpack and settle in.
After a good night’s sleep, day one of six days of skiing arrived and we headed up the mountain with our packed lunches ready for lessons to begin at 9.30 am. In five groups with five instructors (and a member of staff) the week of skiing began! What a week it was, there was laughter and there were tumbles but every day we came home smiling. The improvements made by the end of the week were amazing! I was proud to see how much the girls progressed but also to see how comfortable they were on the slopes.
Tuesday evening’s visit to the ‘Lucky Flitzer’ toboggan run was superb. Screams of excitement could be heard all round as we raced down the mountain.
Wednesday evening’s visit to the swimming pool was meant to be a little more relaxing, although most of the time was spent on the slides.
The weather was fantastic overall with the final two days hitting temperatures up to a whopping 17 degrees!
With 60 of us in total, girls had to work together to manage meal times and they should be commended for their collaboration and willingness to help. The behaviour was exceptional. The girls were without doubt, an absolute joy to be with and we were told this on several occasions by ski instructors and locals.
Our lead ski instructor from Ski Schule said: “I’ve never had such a nice group! They listen, do the exercises they have fun. They were just so nice! Thank you for the nice week, I hope that we will see each other next year, in fact I’m looking forward to it.”
We finished the week tired but happy with some great group photos of everyone after a fantastic week.”
