Botanic Garden trip for Year 2
Year 2 enjoyed a lovely sunny morning at the Botanic Gardens in Oxford to kickstart their new topic, The Scented Garden. After travelling there on the number 8 bus (sitting on the top deck was very exciting!) the girls explored the maze and then had a fascinating session in the beautifully scented conservatory with one of the education staff, Rodger.
The girls learnt about the life cycle of plants and examined lots of unusual seed cases and pods before a self guided tour of the gardens looking for evidence of different types of pollination. The tulips particularly were looking magnificent and the morning was rounded off with a picnic in the sun sitting in front of the tulips before returning to school for the afternoon.
Mrs Joanna Haynes, Head of KS1, said: “This has been a wonderful opportunity for the girls to learn first hand about so many different plants and their varied life cycles.”
