Bread from Pudding Lane

Year 2 pupils had a ‘taste’ of the 17th century to supplement their lessons about the Great Fire of London.

They used the Food and Nutrition room at Prep to bake bread that was similar to that which would have been baked back in 1666.

Whilst working together to create the perfect loaf, the children experimented with different techniques. They tested what happened when the yeast was mixed with sugar and warm water beforehand and how the length of time in the oven affected the appearance and texture of the bread.

Fifteen minutes in the oven proved to be the ideal time to bake a little bun. Hopefully they all enjoyed their bakes once they got home.
