Burning Snacks in Year 6
Girls in Year 6 have been trying to find out how much energy there is in food with an exciting experiment in the Science lab.
First, they learned how to safely light Bunsen burners and once they were suitably trained they then used the apparatus to ignite a cheesy corn snack. The students then placed the enflamed snack beneath a test tube of water. The girls measured the temperature change of the water which presented them with data to explain how much energy is released during the reaction.
Dr Katie King, Head of Science, said: “Lots of great scientific skills were used during this experiment, from superb safety to accurate measuring and some head-scratching data analysis!”
