Christmas services at the Prep School

Christmas is such a special time of year when the school community comes together in many different ways.

The Christingle and Carol services at the end of term brought families together to see the pupils celebrate this magical time of year.

It was with great excitement that parents, staff, and governors gathered in the Rendall Hall for this year’s Christingle Service, expertly prepared by Ms Chaudhary, Ms Ford, Mrs Haynes and Mrs Parker and the pupils in years 1 & 2.

After a warm welcome from Head of Prep Mrs Jane Crouch the audience was ably led by the children throughout the whole service. They heard the story of the nativity through their readings, their hearts were lifted by their beautiful singing and their minds inspired by their poems.

The children helpfully assisted the Rev Tom Howell and Mrs Fran Walsh, our Chaplains, in explaining the importance of the Christingle, the signs and symbols that point towards the love that came into the world through Christ’s birth.

Unfortunately, Mrs Walsh got the wrong end of the stick and came dressed as a banana, but the children were very quick to correct her fruity mistake and Rev Howell was turned into a human Christingle!

Mrs Walsh said: “It was a wonderful beginning to our official Advent and Christmas celebrations within the Prep School.”

The Carol Service was as spellbinding ever with the joyful singing almost raising the roof off the Sports Hall! The children performed their songs and poems beautifully and it marked the festive end of term.

It provided a wonderful moment to reflect and be grateful for everything achieved over the past year and a reminder to be hopeful for all that will come ahead.

The service marked the end of a busy term and the beginning of a precious time with family and friends.

Mrs Crouch said: “We hope that the whole of our community is able to enjoy this festive time with loved ones and wish much merriment and contentment for you all. Merry Christmas!”
