Electricity workshop
Year 4 pupils spent the morning at the History of Science Museum in Oxford where they learnt about the use of electricity in times past.
They met Mr James Wimshurst, who had travelled into the future from 1883 to the current day, to showcase his electrostatic generator and share some of the scientific demonstrations that were performed for Victorian audiences.
The pupils learnt about how the discovery of electricity led to important inventions such as telegraph machines. They experienced first hand how frustrating sending morse code messages can be as well as learning some semaphore signals using flags.
The pupils found it very interesting to see how far technology has developed over many years to the devices of today with voice activation and video calls.
