Evey makes waves in Florida World Championships
A Headington L4 girl has finished eighth in an international sporting contest.
Over half term October 2019, Evey travelled to St Petersburg, Florida, to take part in the Biathle/Triathle World Championships.
The competition had athletes from 32 countries across multiple age groups from U9 to 70+ Masters. Team GB had the largest turn out.
Evey and five other GB athletes competed in the U13 girls, up against girls from Egypt, South Africa, Guatemala, India and more. There were 21 in total.
The race comprised a 400m run, a 50m swim in the extremely salty bay and then another 400m run to the finish line. Evey was competing in hot and sunny conditions with the mercury rising to 27°C by the time the race started at 9.30 am.
Evey placed eighth in her age category. She said: “It was an amazing experience.”
The two GB teams of three athletes had the first and second fastest times based on their accumulated times.
Next year, the European Championships will be held in Spain and the World Championships in Germany, for which Evey is hoping to qualify.
