GCSE Results Day 2021
There were smiles and tears of joy as girls celebrated their GCSE results together.
While most received their results electronically, many chose to come in to school to mark the occasion with teachers and friends.
Orla, who achieved ten 9s and an 8, was among those celebrating with friends. She said: “I am very pleased, I thought I was going to do a lot worse and get a lot of 7s.” She will take A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English at Headington.
Lynette, who will be studying Maths, English, Chemistry and Psychology, opened her results at home – an impressive nine 9s and two 8s – before joining her friends in school. She said: “I was scared I would get really upset if I found out at school!”
Clemmie said she did “pretty good I would say” after receiving nine 9s and an 8. She said: “It’s definitely been a tough year for all of us but I think we are all really happy with how we have got on.” She will study A Levels in Politics, Chemistry, History and Biology at Headington – and said she intended to spend results day “getting as much free food as possible!”
Minty, who joined Headington at the beginning of L5, was delighted with her two 9s, four 8s and four 7s. She said: “Because of the pandemic I haven’t really experienced a full year in school so I am looking forward to doing that in Sixth Form! I was very pleased with my results.”
Among those unable to pick up their results in person were three members of the Rowing Eight who will compete at Henley Royal Regatta on Friday 13th August. The trio of hard-working athletes have 30 GCSEs between them. We wish them and the rest of the crew the very best at the starting line on Friday!
This year’s results were awarded based on a robust system of assessment and accompanying evidence of the level students had achieved.
Headmistress Caroline Jordan said: “It has been wonderful to see so many girls coming in to celebrate with their friends. Like our A Level girls earlier this week, they have experienced huge amounts of disruption over the last two years and have risen admirably to the challenges they have faced.
“Today is about celebrating their achievements and looking forward to the next step in their educational journey but I would also like to pay tribute to the staff who have supported them over the last two years and worked so hard to ensure the grades awarded today are a true reflection of the girls’ abilities.”
