Girls celebrate A Level results
It was celebration time at Headington School’s Sixth Form as girls and staff reunited to collect their A Level results.
Girls were sent their results electronically but many came to celebrate with teachers and friends and to discuss their next steps.
Hours of study in the classroom and revision at home paid off as girls recorded excellent results, many achieving results above their assessed predictions on joining the School. Thirteen girls – more than one in ten of the cohort – achieved three or more A*s.
Among them was Head Girl and Academic Scholar Sophia Brehm, whose three A*s and an A, along with an A* in EPQ secured her place at Cambridge to study History and Spanish.
She said: “I am feeling wonderful. It definitely hasn’t felt real until now.
“I’m excited to start at Cambridge but I am still getting used to the idea because it will be weird not to be here. Headington has been very significant to me, it has been so much fun and joy and just such wonderful, amazing people.”
Sophia has been part of the Headington community for 12 years, joining the Prep School in Year 2.
Alina is also Cambridge-bound after achieving 4 A*s and was among the first cohort to complete History of Art A Level since it was offered at Headington. Alina, who joined Headington in Year 4 in the Prep School, secured her place to study History of Art at Selwyn College and has deferred acceptance for a year to complete an Art Foundation course.
She said: “I am really happy. I got up as late as I possibly could so I didn’t have to be anxious for too long. When I was walking in I was thinking it could be the last time I come here which felt quite strange because it has been such a comfortable place for me.”
A number of girls have secured places on a range of varied and creative courses, ranging from Costume Design to Film Production, to Chemistry and Molecular Physics. Two girls will be pursuing teaching vocations, studying Early Childhood Education and Primary Education, while others have received prestigious apprenticeship offers.
Among those collecting their results was rower and soon-to-be medic Sophie, who picked up her grades after coxing the GB Eight to gold in the U19 World Championship in France. Her A*A*A secured her place to study Medicine at University College London.
Sophie joked that she couldn’t decide whether she was more proud of her results or her GB medal.
She said: “The results today are about the next six years of my life while getting the World Championship medal is the culmination of seven years hard training, so that really made the end of Headington for me. It was a dream come true!
She admitted to picking her university partly based on its Rowing programme. She said: “The nice thing about doing this at Headington is the School understands it – they help me catch up when I need to and that made it so much easier to balance. I would be in a very different place had I not been at Headington both in terms of academic success and rowing – I would not change it for the world.”

The entire first cohort of Photography A Level students achieved A*-B, with 60 per cent recording the highest grade. Other impressive subject results included in Chemistry, with 78 per cent of girls achieving A*-A, Maths at 68 per cent and Geography at 67 per cent. All students taking Textile Design achieved a B or higher with an incredible 93 per cent achieving A*-A.
Headmistress Mrs Caroline Jordan said: “I am so immensely proud of all our girls who have achieved fantastic results, especially given the disruption they have experienced in the last few years of schooling. I am really excited to see what they will achieve as they pursue such a wide range of interesting, challenging and creative career paths.
“I also have to commend our wonderful teaching staff who have encouraged, inspired and supported these young women to succeed and perform to their best every step of the way. “Well done to all of them!”
