Headington Rye Oxford Hockey
Thursday 21st September
Headington and Rye came together for this event in a brilliant team merger.
On arrival the children were encouraged to get to know as many names as possible and create bonds with each other. All children played in mixed teams and they were asked to work together and create a team name resulting in a friendly match taking place between “the mighty mustard” (wearing yellow bibs) and “the Hockey hedgehogs”.
The girls played 30 minutes of fast-paced Hockey. It was an end to end game, and enjoyable throughout. Four goals were scored and many more opportunities created.
On completion of the match, one Headington pupil and one Rye pupil were nominated to be the joint captains for each team to lead a very encouraging three cheers. As always, match tea was a super opportunity to further mingle with each other.
Evie in 6H said, ‘we learnt how they played and we even learnt a bit about each of them. It was really good for the future because they won’t be strangers when we are in the same class’.
Headington PE teacher Katie Merrick said: “It was an afternoon that was fun for all and, although Hockey was the reason to come together, the exceptional outcome was the new team ethos the children created through making new friends and working positively together.”
