La Côte d’Opale with L4/U4
A group of L4 and U4 girls headed to the French Opal Coast on Sunday 30th June for an enrichment trip.
After a smooth journey over the channel from Dover to Calais, the group visited a boulangerie en route to their accommodation. The girls saw the workings of a real bakery and had a chance to make croissants. After sampling a delicious pastry, they went to their hostel in Stella-Marais.
That evening, the girls walked to the beach at Stella-Plage and had a lovely time paddling in the sea. On Monday morning, it was time for a pancake demonstration followed by a visit to the old fortified town in Boulogne. After walking down to the beach, the group enjoyed a leisurely picnic by the sea and then set off to the snail farm where the girls learned all about snails and saw how they are farmed to supply local restaurants. They even had a chance to taste the snails in garlic, butter and parsley and sample some snail pâté.
On their last day, the girls visited Europe’s largest aquarium, Nausicaã, which was a feast for the eyes with so many different types of fish and sea-life. After a quick dash to a French supermarket, it was time to catch the ferry home, returning to school by early evening.
Trip leader Mrs Michelle Stephenson said: “It was a wonderful trip and the weather was fantastic the whole time.”
