Law Lecture with Attorney General
A small group of Headington pupils studying Politics A level attended the annual High Sheriff of Oxfordshire’s Law Lecture in the University’s Examination Schools on Tuesday 10th October.
The guest speaker, Attorney General Victoria Prentis, KC MP spoke about the importance of the judiciary remaining independent and maintaining its intrinsic duty of neutrality especially with the high proportion of barristers working in Westminster.
This was followed by a lively Q&A session which the girls found useful especially as some of the questions raised a few eyebrows, not least the admission by the speaker that the scrutiny of some legislation in Parliament was not always up to scratch.
Mr Matthew Gow, Head of Politics said; “All in all this was an insightful and useful foray into understanding the legal aspects of government and the role of the Attorney General which is very often overlooked.”
