Lord Lieutenant Cadet at Blenheim
Emma (U6) attended Blenheim Palace as part of her responsibilities as Oxfordshire’s Lord Lieutenant’s cadet. Read her account below:
Last week at Blenheim Palace, I had my second Lord Lieutenant event. It involved celebrating the affiliation of HMS Diamond with Oxfordshire.
HMS Diamond is a Type 45 destroyer with a crew of 240 sailors including a Royal Marines boarding team.
Its primary role is air defence, but is also versatile and capable of performing a wide range of duties, from counter-narcotics operations to providing humanitarian aid.
In attendance were senior naval officers, including past commanders of HMS Diamond and Lady Suzie Johns, Lady Sponsor for HMS Diamond present.
They were joined by civic and military representatives from across Oxfordshire including the Lord-Lieutenant Marjorie Glasgow and Oxfordshire County Council leader Cllr Liz Leffman.
My main role was to assist the Lord Lieutenant in her duties. On this occasion, this involved presenting Commander Pete Evans with his gifts and cake.
I also had the opportunity to meet many of the military representatives and talk to them about their time in the forces.
