Masked theatre

This term some of the girls in Years 3 and 4 seized the opportunity to explore masked theatre.

The sessions were led by Drama Teacher Mr Richard Kidd, who trained with the renowned theatre maker John Wright, founder of two theatre companies.

Mr Kidd took some of John‘s teachings and adapted them to teach the Year 3 and 4 pupils.

This term they were working on how to put on a play using the medium of mask and mime.

This provided opportunities to encourage naturally able pupils to ‘go further’ with something that is unfamiliar to them and gave those who were less confident the chance to put on a mask and become someone else for a short time.

In doing this, they are able to begin to understand the basics of performing whilst also gaining in their personal confidence.

Mr Kidd said: “The term’s work has been a massive success and has seen advances made by all, but especially in those who aren’t always as keen to get up and perform.

“Some new stars have been born and that is really exciting!”
