Matilda JR
With the summer break fast approaching, girls, together with the Drama, Theatre and Music teams were busy putting together a performance of Matilda JR to blow away audiences.
Four dazzling performances were put on for the school community across three days but the 66-strong cast of girls from U3 to U4 (Year 7 to Year 9), supported by a crew of 20, crew had been rehearsing since the week before spring half term.
The set featured a stunning mix of physical built forms and projections which both assisted in the lighting and could also alter the mood of each scene dramatically. The costumes were authentic and detailed.
The story was perfectly told through a balance of dialogue and song, with such famous numbers as ‘When I Grow Up’, ‘Naughty’ and ‘Revolting Children’. Standout performances came from Mr and Mrs Wormwood, Matilda, Mrs Trunchbull, Bruce Bogtrotter and more however the ensemble brought the play together by supporting with singing, dance moves. Every cast member on stage was filled with impressive energy throughout the production.
Director Mr Alex Rogers said: “I’d have never expected it but I rather enjoyed taking part in the choreography of the spectacle.
“It was a complete delight to work with such a creative and original cast. It’s the first time I’ve directed a musical and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more or been more proud of the cast and creative team”
