National Poetry Day 2024
Counting on me? Counting one, two, three? Counting sheep?
Last Thursday’s National Poetry Day theme of ‘Counting’ inspired a myriad different interpretations from Headington Rye Oxford pupils.
These were showcased at our annual House Poetry Slam, where Tucker House took the crown following a closely-fought competition.
The Slam was the final event in a day which was packed with poetry.
The highlight was a visit from poet Arji Manuelpillai, who ran creative writing workshops, poetry readings and Q&A sessions attended by over 70 pupils from the Senior School.
Arji was enthused by the creativity and confidence of the girls, many of whom shared their creations during his workshops.
The PoetTree – decorated with Haiku written by Year 7 pupils – returned to the Library, and Miss Samuels’ Literary Scavenger Hunt puzzled and challenged pupils throughout the day.
