Netballers reach National finals
Headington’s U14 netballers claimed victory and are looking forward to taking on Nationals after winning the regional tournament at Wavell School in Farnborough.
The competition saw the U14 in pool A with a total of seven schools, meaning they would play six games before the knockout stages.
The team started strong against Pipers Corner, and once into the groove, won 7-3.
The wins kept on coming – the girls won their next five matches, beating Seaford College, St Swithun’s, Wellington College, Ryde and Sir Henry Floyd to progress to the semi finals.
Knowing a win in this match would mean a place in the National Netball finals, composure and focus was needed. It was a goal for goal match and with both teams playing some excellent Netball, it was both exciting and nerve wracking!
The squad did not give up and managed to come away with a nailbiting 8-7 victory and a place in the final and Nationals! The U14 squad then went on to win the final – a re match against St Swithun’s – another 8-7 victory.
Mrs Vicki Cathcart, U14 Netball Team Manager said: “What an incredible day!
“We are extremely proud of what the team have achieved in this Regional round. They have trained exceptionally hard and we are very much looking forward to the National Round held in March at Oundle School.”
