New Boathouse Opening
There were cheers and celebrations as Headington’s Rowing community came together to mark the official opening of the School’s new boathouse.
Olympic silver medallist and Headington alumna Katie Greves officially cut the ribbon on the stunning new facility on the River Thames at Long Wittenham on Saturday 27th April before current parents, rowers and former members of HSOBC (Headington School Oxford Boat Club) toured the facility and shared pizza, fizz and rowing memories.
Development Officer Emily Whiteley said: “It was wonderful that so many people who’ve been involved with shaping the Boat Club over the last 30+ years came together to celebrate the official opening of HSOBC’s new home.
“We were delighted that Katie Greves, Headingtonian (2001), Silver medallist, 2016 Olympics joined us to officially open the Boathouse. Her words, delivered so eloquently, about what her Headington education and rowing mean to her, resonated with athletes, parents, relatives and friends alike.”
This was also a very special occasion to reunite with Headingtonians who joined the celebration, some of which haven’t seen their teachers in 20 years. With the Boathouse in full action, guests also got to see a glimpse of a normal Saturday for the rowers as they carried the boats to the river for their weekend training session.
Miss Whiteley said: “On behalf of everyone at Headington, a massive thank you to everyone who has supported our campaign. It is only with the generous support of parents, alumnae and the wider community that we have been able to build a Boathouse HSOBC can call home.”
