Philosophy Cafe with Dr Neal Harris

Dr Neal Harris from Oxford Brookes gave students a detailed and fascinating insight into competing views of human nature at October’s first Philosophy Cafe.

After contrasting the pessimistic view of Thomas Hobbes with the more positive view of human nature offered by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, students were encouraged to reflect on their own ideas.

A lively discussion followed and although there were lots of differing viewpoints, there was one thing that all students could agree on: the issue is a very complex one and more discussion is absolutely necessary!
