Real life superheroes
On Tuesday 16th January, Year 1 were visited by the Fire Service who explained the importance of having smoke alarms in our homes and how to call out the fire service using 999. They showed them the fire engine including the equipment that they use when battling fires. The children learned about the wide variety of other emergencies that they help people with. The girls were enthralled.
On Monday 22nd January, they also enjoyed a visit from the Thames Valley Police who showed them all the equipment that they may use as a member of the Police force. The girls were able to try on Police hats and hold riot shields, sit in the Police van and even turn on the lights and sirens at the front of the van. They had a wonderful time listening out for calls coming through radio and learning about what it is like to work for the Police.
The pupils have really enjoyed learning about superheroes and meeting some of them throughout the last few weeks.
Ms Rachel Ford, Year 1 teacher said, “It has been wonderful to engage the children over the course of this topic and to hear all their fantastic questions and comments.”
