Sixth formers make leadership bids
Twelve sixth formers took to the stage to set out their stand to be selected as a member of next year’s Head Girl Trio.
The girls had just one minute to explain why they were best suited to the jobs of Head Girl, Head of Day or Head of Boarding and what they would bring to the role.
They presented their case on Tuesday 3rd March to a packed theatre audience including Headmistress Mrs Caroline Jordan, members of the Senior Leadership Team and staff from across the School, fellow Sixth Formers and U5 girls.
Nearly 70 girls have applied for one of the 42 prefect roles on offer, with positions of responsibility up for grabs including leading competitive or boarding houses or with a focus on different aspects of school life such as Art, Chapel, Dance, Befriender, Alumnae or Charities. New roles this year included prefects with responsibility for Communities, Library, CCF and D of E.
Staff who attended the hustings have provided feedback on how they thought the Head Girl hopefuls had performed while all staff and sixth formers were invited to cast their votes for those they felt would make good prefects. Mrs Jordan and Mr Simon Drew, Pastoral Director of Sixth Form, will interview a shortlist of those considered for one of the Head Girl positions.
Mr Drew said: “We were really impressed by the standard of applications and also by the quality of the speeches each of the candidates gave.
“The skills required to prepare and write an application, to stand in front of their peers and put forward a strong argument which appeals to different audiences will be hugely beneficial for their future university and job applications.
“Now comes the difficult task of narrowing down the applicants until we finalise our prefect team.”
Girls will find out whether they have been successful before the end of the Spring Term and will take up their posts at the beginning of the Summer Term.
