The Oxfordshire Primary Schools Cross Country Championships
Saturday 24th February
On a very cold and frosty Saturday morning almost 60 Headington Prep girls made their way to Sonning Common for the Oxfordshire Primary Schools Cross Country Championships. This was an event that started with runners as young as Year 1 competing for the coveted prize of Cross Country County Champion.
With the temperature still at only 1 degree, the first race set off. The Year 1 pupils ran the whole course with the biggest smiles on their faces. It was an absolute joy to see such enthusiasm. Next was the turn of the Year 2s with Sophie just missing out on Gold. The races came and went and Headington was in the medal mix at every stage.
Ariana and Jesca came second and third respectively in the individual race and overall they won Year 3 team Gold. Alice was crowned County Champion in the Year 4 race and the girls also also won Year 4 team gold! The Year 5s just missed out on the top spot by coming in second by two points and Kitty took the individual Bronze. The Year 6s battled all the way through their 1.8km race and came in joint second as a team.
Overall Headington Prep School came fourth out of twenty schools who entered, which is an incredible achievement of which everyone was very proud.
