Trip to Silverstone
Year 5 enjoyed a brilliant day at Silverstone Museum on 26th February where they learnt all about Formula 1, the evolution of the cars and the drivers involved. They even got to try on some race kit, sit in race cars, both old and new and race mini cars around the new Scalextric track.
When asked about the day, one of the pupils, Dana said, “we were able to stand on the track, learn about the history of the site, and find out all about Formula One cars, clothing, helmets, and drivers. Silverstone used to be a farm, and an RAF site, all of the streets and corners are named after the original site, for example the Hangar Straight. New this year, was a Scalextric track which was in the same shape as the actual Silverstone racetrack. We were allowed to drive cars around the track, racing each other. The workshop was the best bit, where we were able to handle car parts, old and new tyres as well as specialist clothing.”
