U11 Mercia National Athletics Finals
U11 Mercia National Prep Schools Athletics Finals – Monday 1st July 2019
Four very excited and slightly nervous girls travelled to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham for the National Prep Schools Athletics Finals yesterday. It is a huge event with regional rounds held all over the country with the National Final culminating in Birmingham. Agatha ran a great race in the 1500m (5:44.00) finishing in 17th place overall. It was amazing for her to even be at the finals as she is only Year 5. In the long jump Bethan jumped 4.05 metres which was very close to her personal best and finished in 6th place. In the javelin Jessica threw a huge personal best (three metres further!) of 20.23 metres to finish in 5th place. Izzie had huge pressure on her as she knew she was aiming for gold and on paper was faster than the rest of the field going into the race. She timed her run to perfection, finishing 20 metres ahead of the nearest competitor to claim the gold medal she wanted. In addition to her victory she also broke her own school record in a time of 2:28.67. A great day out for all girls and hopefully one they will remember for a long time!
