U12 County Hockey Tournament
Headington Rye’s U12 A&B Hockey teams played in their first ever senior school county tournament on Friday 31st January.
The U12 B team started the tournament with a bang, beating Oxford High School’s A team 3-0, leaving them with plenty of confidence heading into their final two group matches.
A narrow 1-0 loss to Shiplake A and a 3-1 defeat to eventual winners Oratory A didn’t dampen their spirits as they came roaring back to beat Oxford High B in the Plate semi-final and Oxford High A on penalties in the Plate final.
The U12 A team started the tournament with comfortable wins against Oxford High and Shiplake B teams, before beating Cokethorpe A 3-1 in the final group game to secure top spot.
A narrow 2-1 win against Shiplake A in the Cup semi final – scoring the winning goal just one minute from time – secured a place in the Cup final.
A relaxed A team took to the field in the final having already secured qualification for the South Central finals but, despite a positive performance, couldn’t quite get over the line against Oratory A, losing by a narrow margin.
Mr Nathan Monk, Head of Hockey at Headington Rye said: “Well done to all students and staff for an extremely successful day. The players can be proud of their hard work and commitment throughout the day.”
The A team are now Oxfordshire County Cup runners-up, with the B team Oxfordshire County Plate winners.
