U3 Dance and Drama Day ‘21
The U3 were treated to a Dance and Drama Day. Girls were able to choose one or the other for a whole day of enrichment classes on 8th May.
For the Dance Day, pupils took part in two different dance technique classes taught by professional dance practitioners and teachers, Street Dance (Jenai Mason-Smith) and Contemporary (Shaun Dillon). In the afternoon, they worked in groups to create their own dance choreography, combining the dance styles they had focused on throughout the day.
Miss Faith Jackson, Director of Dance at Headington, said: “They worked incredibly well, developing technical dance skills and creating outstanding choreographic ideas. Well done to all involved, they should be very proud of their hard work!”
During the Drama Day, groups created and performed their own versions of the Roald Dahl’s ‘Revolting Rhymes’ including adaptations of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ among others. It was a fantastic chance for girls to work together on original scripts in the school theatre space with the use of lighting, sound, prop and costume.
The girls also had the chance to watch the U3 Speech and Drama groups perform extracts of ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ which they will be performing for their Speech and Drama exam in a few weeks.
Mr Phil Macken, Director of Drama, said: “There was such a playful atmosphere throughout the day where girls had an amazing time creating their original plays. Well done to everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed watching them!”
