UK Maths Challenge
On Tuesday 4th March Headington Rye Oxford hosted the regional round of the UKMT Team Challenge for Y8 and Y9 mathematicians.
Headington Rye Oxford welcomed pupils from a number of local state and independent schools including Cheney School, Cherwell School, Magdalen College School, Oxford High School, St Helen & St Katharine’s and d’Overbroeck’s to take part in a very enthusiastically fought contest.
Teams consisted of four pupils who participated in four rounds, culminating with the Relay Round where they raced both to answer questions and across the hall to receive the next question.
The results were very close, with only three marks between the top three teams. Headington Rye Oxford’s team achieved an impressive third place, with the overall winning team coming from Cherwell School. They will progress to the national final in Westminster later in the year.
Mrs Helen Dancer, Head of Mathematics at Headington Rye Oxford, said: “Congratulations to our team, Miuccia, Lily, Bridgitte and Shereen on a great achievement.”
