Valiant efforts in Indoor Hockey Tournament
Headington 1st XI competed in an Indoor Hockey Tournament hosted by Beaconsfield High School.
For many members of the team this was their first opportunity to play in a competitive indoor match. The first game was against local rivals Magdalen College School. Unfortunately, at half time, they were 2-0 down. However, after some efficient short corner routines the girls finally managed to convert their chances and Holly scored a fabulous goal. The girls continued to attack well and Alexia scored a final goal just seconds before the final whistle, meaning the final score was 2-2.
The second match was against Wycombe High School. Despite quite a few chances they were unable to convert and get past a very well-drilled team. The final score was 0-2.
Next up was Beaconsfield High School on home turf. The girls continued to play well and fabulous defence gave some more chances upfront. Despite some good midfield play the final score was 1-4.
The final match of the day was against Oxford High School. With some really strong attacking movement the side scored another great team goal, tapped in by Alexia. Unfortunately, Oxford High got one back shortly after half time and the final score was 1-1.
Despite not placing as well as the girls would have hoped, the day was a great experience for all. For many of them this was one of their first times playing in a competitive indoor tournament and the day was a good chance to learn some new skills.
