Viola’s Room Theatre Trip
U6 Drama students travelled to the Old Carriageworks in Woolwich to see Punchdrunk’s immersive experience ‘Viola’s Room’ on 13th November. The experience was set up in the old arsenal, which was the perfect immersive setting for the production.
As the group entered, they were asked to sit at tables with a larger group and were given a debrief of how the experience works. They were then asked to remove their socks and shoes and were given head phones.
The voice of Helena Bonham Carter then told them the ancient story of ‘The Moon Slave’ as they were led from room to room by lights.
The show is based on upon Barry Pain’s dark 1901 short story ‘The Moon Slave’ and involves no live actors, presenting an entirely new immersive theatre experience for the girls. The performance is a short 45 minutes, but will leave the girls with memories for a lifetime.
Miss Jannicke Stevens summed up the performance in two words: “Utterly captivating!”
