Women in STEM conference

Three of Headington and Rye’s Science teachers visited a world-renowned centre of science for a special conference.

Dr Fran Harper, Mrs Sallie Campbell and Mrs Aileen Powell were at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories for the Women in Science Conference.

The teachers all enjoyed hearing about the history of women in Astronomy from Mary Mcintyre, Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in the keynote speech.

There was then the opportunity for different workshops including ‘The Power of Talking’ (much loved by Mrs C and Mrs P), ‘Empowering Girls in Physics’ increasing our awareness of unconscious bias all around  and using ‘Games in Science’ to engage students even more actively in revision and retrieval.
