Women’s Head of the River 2025
Three Headington Rye Oxford crews competed in the largest women’s rowing event in the world.
Held on International Women’s Day, the Women’s Head of the River Race, WeHorr, is the largest women’s rowing event by number of entries in the world.
One of the things that makes it so special is the fact that anyone from novices all the way up to Olympic champions can compete in the race, held on a 6.8km stretch of the Tideway in London.
The lead up to the event was tough, as flooding continued to keep the team off the water. Despite these difficulties, the girls stepped up to the challenge, eager to demonstrate the results of their solid winter training.
Out of 43 boats in the junior categories, the 1st 8+ came second behind Tideway Scullers by 0.6 seconds, the 2nd 8+ came 10th and were the fastest 2nd 8+ and the 3rd 8+ came 22nd and were the fastest 3rd 8+.
Head Rowing Coach Mr Ryan Demaine said: “What an impressive set of performances across the board and the girls will surely be excited to see how much they can step on for the final head race of the season: School’s Head of the River.”
