Women’s Head of the River Race 2024
Headington School’s U5 & Sixth Form rowers competed in the most significant rowing event of the Spring Term, the Women’s Head of the River Race.
The Headington crews involved were not only racing against the best U18 crews from across the country, but were also directly racing against elite senior women’s and university crews. This meant that their overall ranking was against the best women’s crews in the UK and some from Europe.
This was the first time that HSOBC has fielded four Eights at this event (the most from any junior club or school) and every crew performed incredibly well with some of the best results that the School has ever produced at the event.
The 1st Eight successfully defended their title, coming first in the junior category while placing 17th out of the 283 crews competing. The 2nd Eight were the fastest second team from any boat club and they placed sixth in the junior category and 37th overall. The 3rd and 4th Eight came 20th and 21st in the junior category, placing 87th and 96th overall.
Mr Chris Hermes, Head Coach at HSOBC said: “To win the junior category, have two crews in the top 50 and four in the top 100 at this event is a phenomenal achievement; we must congratulate the girls on their performance this weekend, we are incredibly proud of their efforts at this race and for all of their hard work over the winter.”
