Year 5 Cook Up a Storm for The Gatehouse Café
Prep School pupils cooked up a vat of soup to support those benefiting from an Oxford homelessness charity.
During their Food and Nutrition lesson, Year 5 put their cooking skills to the test to make a hearty vegetable and lentil soup for The Gatehouse Café in Oxford.
The café provides a warm, welcoming space for people who are homeless or poorly housed, and our students were eager to contribute.
The children practiced essential cooking techniques, including dicing vegetables safely and softening them in a pan. They worked together brilliantly, chopping, stirring, and seasoning to create 12 litres of delicious homemade soup!
Teacher Helen Clarke said: “The experience was not only a great way to develop their culinary confidence but also a valuable opportunity to give back to the community.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and we are so proud of their efforts. Well done, Year 5!”
